WEEK 9. IT, Risks and Ergonomics: Frustration

The Internet claims that poor ergonomic design may lead to huge disasters, you can also find some impressive lists of health issues caused by bad ergonomics:

* Ganglion cysts
* Trigger finger
* Migraines
* Back injuries
* ...

Have you already started implementing ergonomics measures into your product? No..? Bad luck comes just once in a while, the chance is quite low it would definitely overpass you and your business... So why not to save some money by closing our eyes on the ergonomic aspect? Probably I won't be wrong to say that most contemporary companies and startups think in this way while only a few aware ones take ergonomics into account.

So why even talk about ergonomics if no one cares? I'll try to describe a couple of my ergonomic frustration point which I believe many of us (IT people) face every day:

1. Bad documentation: it is made by developers for developers - and still often neglected. The product (library, framework, API) may be as good as it wants to, but if it's unclear how to use it, then all its great functionality is thrown into a trash can. Creating decent documentation would dramatically reduce the costs of customer support and increase the spread of technology. Everyone likes pretty stuff, right?

2. Bad UX: honestly it doesn't fit into my brain how in 2020 someone still pays huge salaries to bad UX designers. What do I mean by bad UX design? Hopefully, some personal opinion is allowed in the blog, so I'll comment on the Facebook Messenger. Facebook, ranking first among social media companies in annual revenues, still has the "message requests" option which is not even possible to disable. How many important messages have you missed because of this feature?

This was just a short overview of the ergonomics problems which for me serve as a turn off point - I would rather completely stop using the software with such poor solutions. I think that the ergonomics aspect (and UX in particular) should have a higher weight even in our university - that's a pity we don't have a class which would teach us to create actually usable products.
